Patients with resistant active acne, acne scars, or wrinkles who desire an effective and fast treatment (about 30 minutes) that allows them to resume their normal activities immediately are perfect candidates for ThermaScan. This is a no downtime procedure because ThermaScan utilizes a mid-infrared 1319 nm Nd:YAG laser that targets the highly hydrated upper papillary and reticular dermis and heats it to the desired temperature, while sparing the less hydrated epidermis. The net effect is the heat will shrink the sebaceous glands for a positive effect on the acne, and the heat will stimulate new collagen growth for a positive effect on wrinkles and acne scars. Six treatments one month apart is recommended for building collagen to reduce wrinkles, but six treatments is not usually required for acne.
